Busitema University is a multi-campus public university located in the eastern region of Uganda. The main campus is at Busitema, with additional campuses at Nagongera, Namasagali, Arapai, Mbale, Pallisa, and Kaliro. Established by statutory instrument in 2007, Busitema University focuses on essential study programs across various fields, including Engineering, Science Education, Health Sciences, Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Management Sciences, and Vocational Education.
The university was founded with the vision of improving equitable access to higher education in Uganda, especially in regions that previously lacked a public university. Busitema University welcomed its first cohort of students on October 3, 2007.
Initially, the university operated with two campuses: the Busitema Campus, specializing in Engineering and Technology, and the Nagongera Campus, focusing on Science and Education. Over the years, Busitema University has expanded to six operational campuses and a study center in Tororo town, dedicated to short and skill-based training courses. The university has grown from two faculties and three academic programs to six faculties offering a total of 83 academic programs across a range of specializations.
